Dr. Md. Mustafiz M. Rahman is a renowned British trained Orthopaedics & Spine Surgeon. He has more than 40 years of experience in Orthopaedics including major subspecialties of Arthroplasty, Spine Surgery and Trauma (special interest on Pelvic Trauma).
Within a year of qualifying from Dhaka Medical College, Dr. Rahman moved to United Kingdom in 1973 for further training. In UK he has soon earned reputation of a very capable surgeon and was promoted from the rank of a junior trainee surgeon through registrar to the post of consultant surgeon within a short time. He has earned reputation as an excellent Orthopaedic Surgeon by performing various major orthopaedic procedures including large number of total hip replacements, total knee replacements and ACL reconstruction with great success. Twelve years later, for his extensive experience he was invited to work in Saudi Arabia where he worked in King Fahad & King Khaled National Guard Hospitals in Riyadh & Jeddah respectively, which are one of the most reputable tertiary referral centres in the Kingdom. In Saudi Arabia, in addition to above surgeries, he developed expertise on management of TB & traumatic spine injuries, Scoliosis, Neglected club feet (TEV), Congenital dislocation of hip (CDH), Polio and severe trauma. In trauma Dr. Rahman was recognized as an expert on management of pelvic & acetabular injuries for which patients from many areas in the Kingdom were referred to him for further management. In 2010 Dr. Rahman returned to Bangladesh to join in Square Hospital Ltd.
To further his knowledge and experience in orthopaedic subspecialty of interest Dr. Rahman has traveled extensively to the countries of five continents of the world where he attended lectures, workshops, operating rooms with experts in the field. Even at present stage of his experience he regularly travels abroad to keep up-to date.
Dr. Rahman is involved in teaching throughout his medical carrier. In UK he taught students from Manchester and London Medical School and in Saudi Arabia he taught students of King Saud Medical University in Riyadh & Jeddah. He regularly taught students for preparation of FRCS, Arab Board and Saudi Board examinations and was examiner of Saudi Board of Orthopaedics. He is a registered tutor of Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) courses. He has quite a few publications in international medical journals.

In general, when a patient visits the hospital or the doctor, they bring a lot of pain and sickness. As well as facing several costs. The patient brings a lot of hope to the doctor, the doctor will give him priority, see him for a long time, talk, explain what happened to him, the patient’s privacy will be properly protected and he will get that doctor in the future physical illness – usually, all patients have these expectations.
Many patients come to a doctor. He sees, treats, and heals many sick people every day. When the patient waits for the doctor, there is a lot of hope in the mind. He has a dream of recovery and he also thinks that the doctor will cure him on the instructions of the superior. Patients believe that recovery depends on the doctor’s treatment.
When the question of rights arises, the patient has the full right to receive adequate time from the physician for diagnosis and examination, to have a clear idea of the disease and its treatment and cost, and to be treated with respect. Patients need to know about their rights. Violence or arrogance does not bring any benefits in defending their rights but awareness and systematic practice can set a positive example.
In the end, people will say that this great profession of doctor should not be tainted in any way. This profession should be kept in check to improve the quality of medical services in the country because medical services are an important issue for us. Physician care involves saving lives. No one has the right to play tricks on life. Among the physicians, integrity, humanity, virtue, dutifulness – these are the qualities that should be worshiped more. That is what many doctors do. For this, of course, some of your doctors have had to give their lives during the recent Corona crisis. That is the medical profession. And it should be so. The distance between doctor and patient has been created due to the patient and the patient’s relatives, physicians in the field. It is necessary to reduce this distance and maintain a friendly relationship between the physician and the patient. The doctor, the patient, and the patient’s relatives will do it.
